Job Description for Council Secretary
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Oversee the recording of minutes of meeting of the statewide independent living council (SILC) and SILC executive committee
- Serve as chairperson for the SILC membership committee
- Coordinate the review of membership applications, and identify and recruit individuals to submit applications to serve on the SILC
- Assist other officers with planning efforts of the SILC
- Represent the SILC and ILCW for purposes of recruitment and member development
- Facilitate development of new independent living leaders within the state

QUALIFICATIONS
- Comfortable networking and communicating with individuals and organizations the scope and function of the SILC for purposes of recruitment
- Knowledge about centers for independent living and independent living services; and the roles of the Council and Centers for Independent Living
- Ability to represent individuals with disabilities while working with others from diverse backgrounds
- Experience actively participating in meetings
TIME PER MONTH (excluding travel time)
- Regular (Quarterly) and Special Council Meetings
- 48 Hours plus travel time and Committee/Work Group Meetings
- Reading and preparation for meetings
- Membership development activities
